Roblox: 'X is not a valid member of Y' – Fix
The error
Leaderstats is not a valid member of Player "Players.Builder123"
What it means
You indexed an object with a dot (player.Leaderstats) and there was no child or property with that exact name at that moment. Causes:
- The object has not loaded or been created yet (very common in LocalScripts).
- Wrong name or capitalisation:
leaderstatsis notLeaderstats. - The object only exists on the server (e.g. in ServerStorage), so a LocalScript cannot see it.
The fix
-- wait for something that will be created
local leaderstats = player:WaitForChild("leaderstats", 10)
if not leaderstats then
warn("leaderstats never appeared")
return
end
-- or check for something that might not exist
local tool = player.Backpack:FindFirstChild("Sword")
if tool then
tool.Parent = player.Character
endUse WaitForChild for objects you know will appear, and FindFirstChild when they might not. Keep shared objects in ReplicatedStorage if clients need them.
