Roblox: 'Http requests are not enabled' – Fix
The error
HttpService:GetAsync(): Http requests are not enabled. Enable via game settings
What it means
HttpService is switched off by default for every experience. Until it is enabled, every GetAsync, PostAsync or RequestAsync call fails. HttpService also only works from server Scripts, not LocalScripts.
The fix
- Publish the place, then in Roblox Studio open Home > Game Settings > Security.
- Turn on Allow HTTP Requests and save.
- Make the request from a server Script, wrapped in
pcall:
local HttpService = game:GetService("HttpService")
local ok, result = pcall(function()
return HttpService:GetAsync("https://example.com/api/status")
end)
if ok then
print(result)
else
warn("HTTP request failed:", result)
endRoblox cannot call its own roblox.com web APIs through HttpService directly, and requests are rate limited, so cache results where you can. Never put API keys in a LocalScript.
